Dennis K. Carney Volunteer Award
Each year, the Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) Board recognizes a CCI volunteer who has committed their time and energy to promote CCI in multiple ways. In 2018, the CCI Board voted to create an award to honor an extraordinary CCI volunteer and as such the Dennis K. Carney Volunteer Award was created.
Dennis K. Carney began early in his career as a member and board member of the National Society of Cardiopulmonary Technology (NSCPT). (The NSCPT was the original corporation name for CCI.) He was part of the movement to develop the field of cardiovascular technology becoming separated from the cardiopulmonary field. As an educator at Spokane Community College in Spokane, Washington, Dennis worked to establish guidelines for accreditation for the allied health fields. He served as President of CCI from 1986 – 1988 and 2001 – 2002 and during his tenure made significant contributions to the field of echocardiography. Dennis is considered a legend in cardiovascular education after dedicating over 30 years to teaching. He was instrumental in establishing the concept of the professional triad: professional organizations (both physician and technical), accredited training programs, and recognized credentials.

National Volunteer Week
CCI has close to 100 dedicated volunteers and subject matter experts who give of their time and expertise to further CCI's mission. National Volunteer Week was established in 1974 and is recognized each April for one week.
